Starting from Fessenheim, the hometown of Victor Schœlcher, who was a fervent anti-slavery campaigner and defender of human rights, you cycle westwards towards the Rhone-Rhine Canal, and then northwards in a haven of peace along a countryside canal. When you get to Neuf-Brisach, you can explore the fortifications built by Vauban, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You then cycle southwards back to your starting point via several villages on the Rhine plain.
