The cross-border route leaves Offenburg, the Ortenau metropolis on the Baden Wine Route and stage of the Drei Täler Radweg, along the Kinzigtalragweg to Kehl-am-Rhein, where it flows into the Rhine. After crossing the Rhine on the "Passerelle des deux rives", it passes through Strasbourg, the European capital, and heads south along a cycle path that runs alongside the Ill, the river that irrigates the Alsatian metropolis. Arriving at the confluence of the Ill and the Bruche Canal, it follows the route of the Véloroute du Canal de la Bruche - EuroVelo 5 along the shady banks of this small canal to the Vosges foothills at Molsheim. The canal was built by Vauban to transport Vosges sandstone for the construction of Strasbourg's fortifications. At Ergersheim, the route bends south-west to reach Molsheim, former episcopal city and birthplace of the Bugatti automobile brand, passing under the ramparts and at the foot of Dachstein castle.
