The tourist resort of Wangenbourg-Engenthal, also known as the “Suisse d’Alsace” or the Switzerland of Alsace, is situated in the largest of the Vosges forests and just 40 minutes from Strasbourg. It is set in surroundings of lush greenery between 350 and 968 metres above sea level. The Schneeberg (Snow Hill) is its highest point (961 metres). The commune covers 3152 hectares and has a population of 1300. Its leading industries are tourism, timber and crafts. It has a newsagent-tobacconist, a baker and grocery store and also a butcher. The shops are closed on Wednesday afternoons.
