In 1839, at the initiative of Nicolas Koechlin, the Mulhouse - Thann line was opened. The temporary station was replaced in 1842 by a permanent one which remained in use until 1932. The current building was built between 1928 and 1932 by the architects Charles Schulé and Albert Doll. Bombed during the Second World War, it was only restored in 1955 with a simplified façade.
