" A rare opportunity to discover the secrets of urban archaeological excavations with passionate professionals. "
The former Celluloïd site in Sélestat will soon be replaced by a housing estate and a public parking lot. Prior to this work, a preventive excavation is currently underway to uncover, identify and study the defensive system put in place by Tarade and Vauban at the end of the 17th century. The aim of the research is to understand the organization of the various elements making up the fortification, as well as the materials and techniques employed at each stage of its construction, and more broadly to complete our knowledge of the town's modern history. To enable the public to discover the remains of this ancient fortification, the site will be open to the public on Saturday February 24 from 1pm to 5pm.
