When visiting northern Alsace, don't miss a stop in Hohwiller, a remarkable little village with beautiful 18th century half-timbered houses. In summer, it is pleasant to walk around and to note the care given to the flowering. The village has been awarded 4 flowers by the national label "towns and villages in bloom".
Going up the village, towards Soultz-sous-Forêts, a stop at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is recommended. This religious building is a simultaneum, it is used for two services: Protestant and Catholic. Inside, admire the 15th century frescoes painted by an unknown artist. The most important work represents a Eucharistic Mill. There are only thirteen churches in the world with such a mill. Eleven of them are in Germany, the other two in northern Alsace.
